We tackled 14 homes in just 2 days. Ambitious? Maybe. But we had limited time (my apologies for the rough i-phone pics below) and the 2024 Park City Showcase of Homes is worth the extra steps. Unlike the Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts, where the spotlight is on interior design, this event is run by the Park City Home Builders Association. Here, it’s all about the build—though, I kept my eye on the interiors, too.

Most of the homes were staged to sell and featured neutral palettes to appeal to a broad audience but there were a few notable exceptions that deserve a spotlight. Two distinct architecture and interior design styles dominated the scene, depending on location:

  • Transitional (think shaker cabinetry and a touch of modern farmhouse in Heber and Kamas)
  • Contemporary (sleek, slab-front cabinetry and that effortlessly cool modern mountain vibe closer to Park City).

Every home looked to embrace their natural surroundings— expansive windows, indoor/outdoor living spaces, and materials straight from Mother Nature. There were noticeable interior design themes across many of the homes and certainly some features that stood out for us. Here's a look at: what’s in, what we loved, and where the magic really happened.

Trends We Saw:

  • Free-form vanity mirrors: Breaking away from traditional shapes, these mirrors are all about flow.
  • Textured tile: From tiny mosaics to oversized slabs, texture is king.
  • Hidden doors: Secret rooms tucked behind bookcases? Yes, please. Murphy doors and integrated panel doors are officially a thing.
  • Multiple living spaces: We’re talking adult-only lounges and kid-friendly entertainment zones. Separate but available space for everyone.
  • Large Pantries : Appliance-heavy pantries or prep kitchens made an impressive appearance adjacent to main kitchens.

Features We Loved:

  • Seamless integration: Flush floor vents, flush baseboards, and integrated hardware and sinks—clean lines were the unsung heroes of these homes.
  • LED strip lighting everywhere: From under shelves to behind mirrors, this lighting trend added depth and a modern touch to nearly every space.
  • Live-edge stone counters: These natural edges on countertops, benches, and fireplace surrounds brought raw elegance indoors.
  • Wellness spaces: Spa rooms that featured saunas, cold plunge tubs, steam showers and massage rooms are quickly vying for position alongside gyms.
  • Offset sinks with offset pendant lighting: Functional meets statement-making design—because sinks should shine too.
  • Waterfall stone pedestal sinks: Pair this with floating wood vanities and you’ve got yourself a showstopper.

Two Homes That Stood Out:

  1. Velvaere Park City: This development is all about wellness and curved details, a literal retreat for the senses. Every corner had a story, and the level of detail was inspiring. It was like walking through a designer's dream—soothing, intentional, and sophisticated.

  1. The Vitruvius Built Home: Designed by the talented Teresa Hyatt and built by the Vitruvius Built home team, this home was a refreshing blend of innovation and thoughtful craftsmanship. I had the pleasure of chatting with Charles, the owner of Vitruvius Built, and Teresa herself. These are the kind of forward-thinking professionals that make you stop and admire the process.

After seeing 14 homes, many of which were built to sell, things began to blur (there was that one jade - plastered bedroom cantilevered over the hillside with floor to ceiling windows —still thinking about that one). I found myself craving the unique touch that only interior design furnishings can bring to a space. But the showcase was a reminder of the ingenuity of builders who turn blank slates into extraordinary homes that reflect and embrace the natural beauty of Utah's landscape .

So, tell me: are you more Modern Farmhouse or Modern Mountain? And which trend or feature would you consider for your home?
