Some homes are love at first sight. Others, like Casa de Counsel, are a long-awaited dream finally realized. Nestled in the hills of Los Feliz, this Spanish-style home wasn’t just a move—it was a fresh start for our clients, a pair of dedicated attorneys who traded their nearby mid-century ranch for the romance of arched doorways, hand-painted tiles, and breathtaking LA views.

Their transition wasn’t just about a new house; it was about embracing a completely different style. In fact, the wife had carried a copy of our Oh So Spanish project feature from Traditional Home in her purse for over a year. When her husband finally said, “Call them!”, we were beyond thrilled to help bring their vision to life.

The Challenge: A New Home, A New Identity

While they adored their new home’s architecture, none of their existing furniture suited a Spanish revival. The wife had tried selecting pieces on her own but quickly realized how overwhelming it was. As she put it, “It just frustrated me—I didn’t want to get it wrong.”

That’s where we came in. From the very beginning, these clients trusted us to honor the home’s historic character while making it functional, inviting, and uniquely theirs.

Designing for Architecture, Views, and Lifestyle

At the heart of our design approach was a deep respect for the home’s existing features. We didn’t want to fight against its history—we wanted to enhance it.

Key Design Features:

✔️ Terra Cotta Floors & Wood-Cased Windows – We layered in warm textures and natural tones to complement these original details.
✔️ The Limestone Mantel with Inset Hand-Painted Tiles – Instead of competing with it, we chose furnishings that echoed its quiet elegance.
✔️ Maximizing LA Views – Strategic furniture placement and window treatments kept sightlines open, celebrating the home's panoramic cityscape.
✔️ A Balance of Playful & Quiet – Thoughtful design choices reflected their dynamic lifestyle, from entertaining friends to cozy evenings at home.

Behind the Scenes: A Test of Logistics

This project wasn’t without its challenges. Casa de Counsel sits up a steep driveway on the edge of a dramatic hillside. Getting furniture into the house? Let’s just say it was a full-body workout.

🚛 No truck could navigate the driveway—every single piece had to be hand-carried up.
📦 One sofa refused to cooperate. Narrow doorways and swing windows made it impossible to move inside, so our team went full Mission Impossible—lifting it over a back wall (did we mention the pool?) and bringing it in through a patio entrance.

The Moment It Became a Home

For three days, we installed and styled each space, watching the dappled light and soft breezes dance through the house. By the time the last cushion was placed and the final photo snapped, the transformation was complete.

That evening, the clients returned home. Later, they sent us a message we always love to hear:

"We arrived at home last night and could not be more thrilled with how beautiful our house looks. We spent some time sitting in several of the rooms just to enjoy each space. It almost felt surreal—like, I knew it was our house, but I still couldn’t get my head wrapped around that it was our house.”

Moments like this are why we do what we do. Casa de Counsel isn’t just a house—it’s a home that truly reflects the people who live in it.
